Your Moving-Out Guide

You're moving. Here's what happens next and what you can do to make the process straightforward.

This public guide explains the usual moving-out steps. Opening this page does not submit a notice or confirm that we have received one. If you have not yet told us you are moving, please use the moving-out notice form first.

Your move-out cleaning checklist

A practical, room-by-room guide to preparing your rental property for the final inspection and returning your keys.

Use your ingoing condition report and photographs as the benchmark, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. This checklist is guidance only: it does not create additional obligations, replace your tenancy agreement or condition report, guarantee a bond outcome, or constitute notice to vacate.

1.Confirm your moving date

If you have submitted a moving-out notice and received a success confirmation, our property management team will review the date provided and contact you about the final arrangements. If your moving date changes, please let us know as soon as possible.

2.Preparing the property

  • • Clean the property thoroughly, including kitchen, bathrooms, floors and windows.
  • • Remove all personal belongings and rubbish.
  • • Ensure lawns and gardens are maintained where applicable.
  • • Check your condition report and tenancy agreement for any specific requirements.
  • • Ensure all supplied items (keys, remotes, appliances) remain at the property.
  • • Repair any damage that is your responsibility under your tenancy agreement.

Check your tenancy agreement and ingoing condition report for applicable cleaning requirements, including professional carpet cleaning where relevant. The checklist is guidance only and does not create additional obligations.

3.Utilities and mail

  • • Arrange for electricity and gas accounts to be finalised on or after your move-out date.
  • • Contact your internet provider to arrange disconnection or transfer.
  • • Set up mail redirection with Australia Post.
  • • Don't disconnect services before you've returned possession of the property.

4.Keys and access devices

All keys, remotes, access cards and garage remotes should be returned to Derwent Real Estate according to the final instructions we'll provide. Please don't leave keys inside the property.

We'll let you know the preferred return method (in person at our office, or another arrangement) when we confirm your move-out details.

5.Final inspection

After you've returned possession of the property and all keys, our property management team will arrange a final inspection. We'll compare the property's condition to the original condition report and your tenancy agreement. We'll be in touch to discuss the outcome.

6.Bond

Your bond is held by the Residential Tenancy Commissioner (MyBond) in Tasmania. At the end of your tenancy, we'll agree on any bond deductions (if applicable) and lodge the bond refund.

For current information about the bond process, visit the official Tasmania MyBond website. We can't promise an automatic bond return, as this depends on the property condition and any agreed deductions.

7.Provide your forwarding/contact details

If you haven't already, please provide your best contact details after you move (email, phone and forwarding address if available). This helps us return your bond and send any final correspondence.

8.Need help?

Our property management team is here to help. If you have any questions about the move-out process, please get in touch.
